ABOUT CUNY On Wheels

Fashioned from a 40-foot long bus, the City University of New York’s CUNY On Wheels project is a state-of-the art mobile classroom and information center that assists in bringing admissions and financial aid information and higher education and training services to the residents of the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, NY. CUNY On Wheels is equipped with high-tech telecommunications, high-speed wireless Internet access, computer workstations, LCD screen monitors, and seating for up to 12 people for information sessions, workshops and seminars.

The mobile CUNY admissions center/computer-based multi-media classroom was developed at the request of Queens Borough President Helen Marshall responding to community leaders of the Rockaway Peninsula. At the request of administrators in CUNY Central, LaGuardia Community College under the leadership of President Gail O. Mellow spearheaded the project. LaGuardia Community College is the lead agency in a six-college consortium that includes York College, Kingsborough Community College, Queensborough Community College, Queens College, CUNY Law School and the CUNY Office of Admissions Services. CUNY On Wheels is the first of its kind for the City University of New York and can potentially deliver information and educational services of 11 CUNY senior colleges, 5 other CUNY community colleges, and 3 CUNY graduate schools.
